Welcome to The Ale House

The Ale House is a friendly Colchester Town Pub located in Butt Road on the B1026. Based in Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded market town and a stones throw from the town center. After an 18-month closure the pub (previously named The Dragoon), was massively refurbished, renamed The Ale House and reopened on the 10th November 2011 and is renowned for it’s friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Our helpful, knowledgeable, and dedicated staff are always able to suggest and provide ales to suit your individual palate.

The Ale House really is a great place for beer lovers with a superb mix of real ales, a large selection of lager, wine, malt whiskey, spirits and ciders. We have a Festival of Ales Weekly, which normally includes Dark Ale.

The Ale House has been awarded Colchester and North Essex runner up pub of the year by Camra
